If you have not been out to Pocahontas for a while you are in for a surprise. Clark Jones and his volunteer crews along with some professional trail building experts have spent the last two years expanding the trail system to close to 40 miles of single track. There is something for everyone at Poco from flat beginner trails to black diamonds waiting to challenge the best of riders.
The JRPS trail system is used by bikers, hikers, walkers and runners. Lots of technical sections and some beautiful views of the James River and the city of Richmond.
Powhite Park will get your heart pumping, you’ll spend the ride climbing or descending. There is an outer trail loop that you will hit anytime you get to the top or the bottom of the park so don’t worry about getting lost. The challenge is trying to ride all of the trails that spin off from the loop without repeating the same ones over and over. The trails tend to dry out faster than the other trails in the area.
Close to 9 miles of single track that wraps around the park. The ride starts off pretty mellow after about 3 miles get ready for some fast climbs and quick descents. The backside of this course will give you a great workout, two laps and you are done for the day. Added bonus for winter riding, they have heated bathrooms!!
